150 Years of Rapid Transit in New York City

October 27th, 2004 marks 100 years since the first NYC subway lines went into operation, and 150 years since the start of elevated trains in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Check out http://www.nycsubway.org/.

    On what street in mid-town NYC (2nd ave or 3rd ave?)did the elevated trains run and in what year were they torn down?

    A little Googling turned up this page which says that the 3rd Ave. was the last El train and was torn down in 1955:
